Another Day at the "Office"

Another shoot is in the books and I must admit that being in the field can make for some crazy days! The best thing about this class has been that we are getting to see what it is like to be a reporter/anchor for a living without actually having a paycheck riding on our efforts. Our group was given a sample of having to deal with “real word” problems that might happen on a shoot, due to a miscommunication. After some quick thinking and quick acting, our group was able to find a photographer and make it to our shoot only ten minutes late. Ed is the man!!
Once we arrived at our shoot things went more smoothly than I ever could have expected. The captain who we interviewed could not have been more helpful or professional, and his sergeant was equally as helpful. We conducted our interviews without any issues and quickly made our way outside to shoot some B roll. We first shot our stand ups in front of a van that made for an excellent background and things went smoothly for that. After shooting our stand ups several times, or at least several times for me, we started filming our B roll. We were able to gather some interesting shots of police cars, signs, and other objects that were pertinent to our story and then shoot some good B roll of the highway. The experience gave us a taste of dealing with elements that we will encounter in the business world, and that, as I said, is the best thing that we have learned in this class!
