Pace Yourself

Well, Friday actually did not involve any lecture time. We did not waste any time getting to work yesterday. Once class began and assignments were turned in, groups began editing with their photographers. The editing for my group required some creativity, but luckily we had a photographer who was very familiar with the Avid system, making anything that we wanted to do possible. I was lucky to be in great group, which made this project go very smoothly.
The best thing that we did in class was learn how to better use our diaphragms when speaking, as well as how to avoid “punching” our words when we speak. It was amazed with how much a “punch” my words without even realizing it. I realized that I unconsciously accentuate certain words when I am trying to make point, which I know realize, is not how one is supposed to broadcast. My pacing, as anyone who knows me can tell you, is rather quick. I was pleased to learn ways to improve my overall broadcast, and to learn what I have been doing wrong. Exercises like the ones that we did yesterday are the kinds of things that I hoped to learn in this class.
I enjoy learning the things that we have to learn about when a broadcaster is actually in front of the camera much more than I enjoy learning about the filming and editing side of things. The first full week is now in the books and I am still very much enjoying this class!
